Perpetual Entanglement

The Following was created in the spring 2008. This work is more of an experimentation and consists of direct drawings, silkscreens and solar plates.

Artist Statement:

This work is about the connection to drawing, and the meditative repetition of unpredictable movement of line. The face is used because it’s how we recognize each other, and stands for who we are to other people. This work is a metaphor representing myself, and daily life depicting emotion, growth and change. The images do not depict me but are still self portraits of me moving through time and space. I am stepping out of my comfort zone by producing these prints and trying to pursue an idea and technique to learn from. These lines are an experimentation of pushing and pulling layers and overlapping forms. The lines act as a metaphor for myself moving through time and space.
Silk screening provides the necessary elements to emphasize the layers, by being able to print over and over coating the same image. The process of layering these forms with transparent inks is to build up the forms. The number of coats it takes to build up the print, connects back to the meditative state drawing the line. The line evolves by continuously flowing, just as the ink is continuously layered upon itself.I have experimented with varying the line with different colors, as well as blocking in the forms created by the line with color. The work has moved into solar plates, giving the image a more drawing quality, as well as the element of value. The difference in this work compared to the silk screens is that it incorporates both line and form in the same image.
